A new cast has been announced for the London production of The 39 Steps, now at The Criterion Theatre, beginning on July 13. The show will star John Hopkins as Richard Hannay, along with Stephen Critchlow, Stephen Ventura, and Natalie Walter.
Directed by Maria Aitken, the play is a comedic take on Hitchcock's 1935 classic thriller of the same name about a man who is forced by a mysterious woman's death into a cross-country race for his life. The play is adapted by Patrick Barlow, based on an original concept by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon and on the book by John Buchan.
The play won the 2007 Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, and the Broadway production was nominated for six Tony Awards, including Best Play.
